This is just a mile away at the bottom of the mountain – definitely worth checking out for a spa day!
Beautifully put together, a blast from the past, not only does this improptu museum feature exhibits from Burnsville itself, but from all over the county. It celebrates all of our rich heritage in the Appalachian Mountains. Stop by on a Friday and tell Jean and Brenda Luke says hello.
Sam’s Gap is a great place to start a hike on the Appalachian trail from the cabin – it’s just a few minute drive, and there are choices to hike on the south side trail or the North.
Explore the rich tapestry of Appalachian history at the Rural Heritage Museum, where each exhibit offers a glimpse into the region’s storied past, preserving the traditions and culture of generations past.
Best organic veggies in the state. You can tell they love what they do. Their quality no-spray fruits and veggies are the best I’ve tasted. You’ve got to try their micro greens and award-winning jams. Also, the owners are super friendly and always willing to chat about their approach to growing great-tasting wholesome food.
Cute family owned zoo that makes it obviously known they truly care for their animals and the staff seem to be valued as well. Animal exhibits are for the most part well kept, clean and maintained with fresh water and regular feedings. Some exhibits seemed older and perhaps needed refreshed and it seems the owners are in the process of more improvements. The staff make it a priority for guests to know the rules to keep animals and humans safe. Very knowledgeable about the animals and interact with the guests by answering questions and engaging kids with the animals.
Guests can pay extra to feed birds, goats and giraffes. The giraffes are very popular right now with the birth of the very rare spotless baby, so the zoo was busy and some of the feeding spots were sold out for the day. Food options were mostly junk food (pizza, burgers, Dinonuggies) at the concession stands so I would have enjoyed some healthier options. We ate off the grounds due to the limited choices. Parking was easy and this made for a nice afternoon with the family. Bathrooms were dirty yet again place was very busy and perhaps we just went at the peak time. I can only imagine how much a family has to factor into running a zoo so kudos to this team for being welcoming and taking care of the animals very well. It was obvious and I cannot stress that enough.
This place is absolutely fantastic!! I would have told you before going here that I’m not a huge fan of Middle Eastern food but boy was I wrong! It’s so flavorful, complex, and just plain yummy! Check them out.
This is every bit as decadent as it sounds! French Broad Chocolate is famous, and they have it in so many different forms you can’t go wrong!
This place is so special. From the owners’ kind conversation, the “homeyness” of the shop located inside, to the incredible sandwiches – I have been blown away every single time I’ve had the pleasure of stopping by. They offer a full coffee bar, homemade sweet treats, outstanding food, and amazing mountain hospitality. I can not recommend them enough. Truly incredible!
